The South (ex-The Beautiful South)

Friday 25th April 2014

After 20 years, ten studio albums, five greatest hits compilations, thirty-four chart singles, 15 million record sales worldwide and performing in front of millions of fans, when time was called on The Beautiful South in 2008, not everyone was ready to leave the party. Dave Hemingway and Ali Wheeler, lead singers with the band - along with departed songwriter Paul Heaton - were having too much fun to get out the pipe and slippers, and so The South was formed. Joining the duo were fellow mainstays from the original band: keyboard wizard Damon Butcher and the potent horn section of Gaz Birtles and Tony Robinson that brought so much to the live shows. Armed with a sensational back catalogue of hits such as 'Song For Whoever', 'Perfect Ten', 'Rotterdam', 'Don't Marry Her', 'You Keep It All In', 'Old Red Eyes Is Back' and many others, there is a long way to go on this particular road.

Big Country

Saturday 10th May 2014

Big Country exploded onto the scene in 1983 with anthemic songs such as 'Fields of Fire' & 'In A Big Country' which were culled from their classic debut album 'The Crossing', which sold several million worldwide. They followed up with a number one album 'Steeltown'. They released 8 studio albums all of which entered the Top Ten and released 28 singles 5 of which were also Top Ten. Following the passing of lead vocalist Stuart Adamson in 2001, the three remaining members Mark Brzezicki, Tony Butler and Bruce Watson reunited for a UK tour in 2007 and released the album Twenty Five Live. Mike Peters handled vocal duties for Big Country from 2010, but left the group in 2013. Following Peters' departure, the band announced they would continue as a quartet with original member Bruce Watson on guitar and vocals, Mark Brzezicki, who joined shortly after the band's formation, on drums, Jamie Watson (2010- ) on guitars and Derek Forbes (2012 - ) on bass. Dodgy

Friday 16th May 2014

The first time round, Dodgy were only together for seven years but in that time they sold over a million records worldwide, released three albums and 12 Top 40 singles, including 3 Top 10s and the Top 5 hit 'Good Enough', still a staple of the Radio 2 playlist. Now back together, the definitive line up of Nigel Clark, Andy Miller and Mathew Priest bring us those catchy summer hits including 'Staying Out For The Summer' and 'In A Room'. 'Dodgy's new album is a revelation' (The Guardian). The trio go out as an acoustic line-up but with the full force of their live sound and mesmorising harmonies.

Inspiral Carpets

Wednesday 11th June 2014

Inspiral Carpets ranked alongside the Happy Mondays and the House of Love as one of the leading bands on the Madchester indie scene during the late '80s and early '90s. Songs like 'This Is How It Feels' and 'She Comes In the Fall' remain indie anthems over a decade later. The band reformed in 2011 with their original singer Stephen Holt taking over lead vocal duties. Rediscovering their garage band roots, Inspirals will be recording their first material in 15 years coupled with worldwide live concerts. Clint Boon has DJ'd a number of times here at the Tiv and we've been waiting patiently to welcome him back on his keys with his incredibly energetic band. This is going to be a night to remember.

Gilby Clarke

Sunday 15th June 2014

Although he's issued several solo albums on his own, guitarist Gilby Clarke is best known for his brief stint as a member of Guns N' Roses. Born on August 17, 1962, in Cleveland, OH, Clarke later relocated to Los Angeles, where he fell into the local music scene playing with such obscure '80s outfits as Candy (who issued a lone album, Whatever Happened to Fun?) and Kill for Thrills (who too, only managed a single release, Dynamite from Nightmareland). During this time, Clarke befriended the members of Guns N' Roses, who had endured a meteoric (yet rocky) rise to superstardom.

The Wonder Stuff

Friday 11th July 2014

Always a floor-filler on the Tiv dancefloor in the late 80's and early 90's, Miles Hunt's West Midlands-based band had a significant following during that era with two critically acclaimed albums, 'The Eight Legged Groove Machine' and 'Hup'. Mainstream chart success followed with their third album in 1991, which included the hits 'The Size of a Cow' and 'Dizzy' performed with Vic Reeves. The band split in 1994, but after a seven year sabbatical, they reformed and continue to play their old numbers, along with new material. We hope that the same floor will be filled to watch the band play live on our famous stage all these years on! (Unfortunately no 'cheap seats' available!!)

Agnostic Front

Wednesday 13th August 2014

These rarely confronted and always respected leaders of hardcore were established as one of the meanest-sounding bands in the emerging punk genre, helping to initiate the term "hardcore" and placing an entire uproar on the New York map by association. From the start, AGNOSTIC FRONT released a catalogue of fast and violent punk tunes consisting of distinctive and aggressive drumming, bass work, and a non-stop barrage of chaotic shouting. The heavier paced balance between the energy and discipline of their earlier punk roots strikes a taut and vivid rock barrage that moshes in close formation. This is real HARDCORE for real hardcore fans!
