Space the band Space formed in Liverpool in 1993 and delivered a different twist on the sound of the usual indie bands from the town - more pop music with a dark and sharp edge. They released their debut album 'Spiders' in 1995 which was quickly gained popularity and proved a huge hit in the UK.

Their first proper single release was 'Neighbourhood' which really kicked things off for the band. The second single Female of the Species was a bolt from the blue. It became an instant classic, staying in the UK top 40 for an amazing 3 months. It was this song that catapulted Space to a whole new audience. The debut album Spiders was a resounding critical success. Three sold out tours, three further Top 20 singles (Dark Clouds, a re-released Neighbourhood and the Top 10 hit Me and You Versus The World) and some triumphant festival appearances followed.

Space's second album Tin Planet was released in 1998. This was a darker, more song-led album than their debut. The first single from Tin Planet was Avenging Angels which was released in December 1997 and went straight into the charts at No. 6. Next came The Ballad of Tom Jones, a duet with Cerys from Catatonia, which was released in February 1998 and entering the charts at Number 4. The album itself was released in March 1998 and entered the album charts at Number 3! The next single Begin Again was released in June 1998.

In 1999 their third album 'Love You More Than Football' was due to be released in the UK in mid 2000 and was eagerly anticipated by Space fans all over. However after the first single 'Diary of a Wimp' didnt meet expected sales levels, the release of the album was delayed indefinitely by Gut records. A further UK tour was announced in September 2001 but later cancelled due to legal problems with the record company. These difficulties forced the band to wait for a termination agreement before recording any new material.

Space are back with a vengeance, with their new album 'Attack Of The 50ft Kebab'.
Don't miss this exclusive show at the Tivoli Venue!

After struggling to get back off the ground with different record companies, Space called it a day in 2005. In 2009, following the unfortunate death of ex-Space drummer Andy Parle, the band members met at his funeral and this broke the ice between them. Singer Tommy Scott started to perform Space songs with his then current band but said it didn't feel the same without the others. He discussed this with his Space's manager and they set up a meeting with the original band members who had no idea what it was about...

From this meeting the new Space was born including the three surviving original members of the band Tommy, Jamie and Franny as well as new faces Phil Hartley (Bass/Double Bass), Ryan Clarke (Vintage Keys) and Allan William Jones (Drums).

On 22nd December 2011, the band sold out the o2 Academy in Liverpool. They played a selection of tracks from forthcoming album 'Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab', as well as a wide variety of earlier material.

This will be their follow-up gig to that, so once again The Tivoli Venue provides an exclusive show for you!

The MonoLPs - the Liverpool Rock n Roll band with a cello

The band have been tearing up the Liverpool and national music scene for the last year, headlining venues across the UK including O2 Academy Liverpool, the Notting Hill Arts Club London, amongst others. Noted for his wild stage performances, lead singer Steven Reid. Their riff-based rock is underlined by the bittersweet cello falling through the angst melodies and haunting harmonies. They have attracted attention from labels; Rough Trade, Universal and Infectious Records and have made fans of The View's Kyle Falconer and Oasis' Alan Magee. Kyle was so impressed with the band, Vicky was asked to session for them on their new album. Here is what the press have to say: NME - "Without doubt the best band of Threshold Festival" Dave Monks BBC Merseyside - "Absolute Class, they just get better live." Kyle (The View) - "really good tunes...vocals are outstanding" Object Of Dreams Magazine - "the cello added a gorgeous layer of deep and dark sweetness" "One of the best bands of last year's festival return to this year's Sound City! The Liverpool five-piece have gained almost legendary status in their short time on the music scene boasting an array of famous fans including, amongst others, Kyle from indie-rockers The View and Oasis manager, Alan Magee. Their sound has been described as 'a rock n roll riot' with their sinister rock undertones mixed with 'kitsch' pop melodies, finally laced with a bittersweet cello, playing solos that Jimmy Page would let rip in the early days of Zeppelin. Selling out gigs across the UK, their live shows are electrifying with eccentric lead singer, Ste Reid, proving he is every bit the showman, bouncing around the stage and interacting with the crowd. This band is one to watch at this years Liverpool Sound City Festival."
